I’m currently living/working on at a winery in Tuscany, nearest to Seggiano, called Castello di Potentino. Yeah, I live in a castle. Well, I live in one of the flats that’s part of the castle, right now with one other WWOOF-er (a third arrives this weekend). It’s a crazy busy time right now, but not exactly with gardening/farming work. So far I have:
-built a wine library in a castle basement (read: built ikea shelves and stacked wine bottles into them in a castle cellar)
-loaded palettes with a lot of wine (around 4,000kg of wine between 3 of us doing it) and will hopefully not have to unload them tomorrow
-slept through my alarm
-been enlisted to bake 10 “pies” (they don’t really have pie tins here, sooooo i dont really know yet) for a big wine tasting/luncheon they’re throwing on Sunday (the closer this looms the more nervous I am becoming)
Additionally, we have wine at lunch and dinner, espresso at lunch, and we eat lunch and dinner together (wwoofers and the family) every day. It’s nice. Today I picked stinging nettles and then learned how to make ricotta nudi with them.
My body hurts from the amount of physical labor I did today. I didn’t shower this morning (see: slept through alarm) and I’m not sure there’s a point in doing so tomorrow, also our flat is so cold and we never spend time there so we never light a fire and thus it stays cold, so now, at 9 pm, I don’t think my body could handle taking a bath in a frigid space.
